Arroyo Seco

Surrounding the small town of Greenfield in Monterey County, California, Arroyo Seco extends from a narrow canyon in the southwest into the Salinas valley. 4-inch round cobblestones termed "Greenfield Potatoes" dot the landscape, and much like Châteauneuf-du-Pape these stones provide excellent drainage and retain the midday heat to keep the vineyard soil warm throughout the cool night. Bordeaux varietals thrive near the mouth of the canyon, while Burgundian varietals prefer the cooler valley floor. The western section of Arroyo Seco is sheltered from the Monterey winds, allowing Riesling and Gewürztraminer to receive noble treatment from our dear friend Botrytis cinerea.
