Located seven miles from the Pacific Ocean, this AVA is much cooler than the neighboring Paso Robles AVA. York Mountain is classified as a Region 1 area, largely as a result of its 1500 foot elevation and consequential fog influence. As a result, the fruits here tend to be brighter than the jammy Paso Robles wines, with wines that have a lower pH and higher acidity.
