Santa Clara Valley composes most of Santa Clara County in California. San Francisco is at the northern edge of the valley while Gilroy, the self-proclaimed garlic capital of the world, is found at the southern end. This area was formerly a prized agricultural area but is quickly being squeezed out by San Francisco's rapid urban sprawl. The southern end of the region features smaller wineries that offer Rhone varietals from their cellar door. Santa Clara Valley is also home to the AVA San Ysidro, while Pacheco Pass rests just outside the AVA.
