“S” appellations

San Benito

Over 3,000 acres of vines are planted in San Benito, which has seen a 2,000 acre vine increase since the mid-1990s. The climate is generally moderate, cooled by the ocean breezes that are able to squeeze through the Gabilan and Santa Lucia mountain ranges, and many microclimates and soil types can be found throughout the AVA. San Benito contains three sub-appellations: Cienega Valley, Limekiln Valley and Paicines.
