Appellation Details

One of the two AVAs found on New York's Long Island, the other being North Fork of Long Island. Affected greatly by the Atlantic maritime climate, the South Fork is much cooler than its northern neighbor -- bud break occurs 3 weeks later than the North Fork and seasonal fogs often coat the vineyards keeping daytime temperatures down. The silt and loam soils allow Hamptons wineries to create more terroir-driven and less fruit-forward wines than the North Fork.
