Santa Ynez Valley

The movie Sideways made the Santa Ynez Valley famous and the vineyard workers bitter over the tourist explosion to the region. Flanked by the Santa Ynez Mountains to the south, and the San Rafael Mountains to the north, this AVA maintains a pleasant, temperate climate. Santa Ynez Valley is considerably warmer than Santa Maria Valley, making the region an ideal location for Syrah and other Rhône varietals. Other varietals grown here include Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc.
