Emerald Riesling

A hybrid created at UC Davis, the original intent being to create a grape that was both high in quality and high in productivity. The Emerald Riesling is a cross between Moscadelle and Riesling. Wines made from this grape were most popular in the 1960s and 1970s though it is very rare today. Ironically, the Emerald Riesling grows best on the coast of California instead of the hot inland counties that it was created for. It is also grown in South Africa with both limited quanities and success.
