Much of the Malbec from Mendoza today is overfruited, overoaked, and just over. On the other hand, the Campo Negro Malbec is lush and full without sacrificing any acidity or body. The nose starts off reserved but improves with a little air to offer a mix of plums, blackberries, minerals and a fresh mountain air perfume. Firm tannins and a broad mid-palate lead to a long finish with touches of baked fruits, some earthy complexity and a touch of campfire. The wine is clean and full, and though tasty now it has the goods to perform for a few more years. December 26, 2009
