Aged for 12 months in American and French Oak barrels and then 3 years in the bottle, it is a wine with hues of good wood, where oak and fruit complement each other. Cherry red in color with ruby tones. Complex aromas with good intensity.

Lots of red fruit, including cherries, strawberries and raspberries, with hints of cinnamon and a good dose of vanilla. A touch of licorice reminds of the old world that the wine pays tribute to. Don't see much long term aging potential here, but drinking it young is all the reward you could want.

A touch more full and rich than the norm for Rias Baixas, this lovely, flavorful wine spent some time in barrels, which, along with the aging Sur Lie makes for a grand wine that will bring out the best of any seafood dish you can serve up. The usual heavy on the lemon citrus is present, along with touches peach. Crisp acidity and a clean, salty finish cry out for a nice bouillabaisse.

Ah, 2007...and the hits just keep on coming. A lovely soft bouquet of blackberry, cedar and paperwhites. The first sip is a burst of cherry and black currant, with big, subtly bitter tannins and pipe smoke. Rich fruit continue on the mid palate, staying strong through the big finish. This is a whole lot of wine for such a small price, and will certainly reward if given a little down time. It's good to see that his winery is staying true to Mr. Mondavi's legacy.

This distinctively old world wine shows loads of stewed cherry and black licorice, pepper and strawberry. All the fruit comes through onto the initial palate, and then some, while tight acidity leaves a clean, tangy edge. The finish is smokey, with a touch of plum and more zingy red berries. A big, lively wine that goes on and on and shows great promise for a long life.

Blackcurrant aromas constantly flowing out of the glass followed by stony flavours, flowers, blackberries, wet forest floor, and then, more berries that just keep coming. Sweet at the outset, hard tannins and thus somewhat astringent. But, this wine really developed in the glass, and it became a joy to taste after a while. I would like to say that it went on for hours, but I guess that is too much, but it is safe to say that at 22 EUR I have not tasted a nebbiolo this long. Still some sulphur notes on the notes, but when you get past that, there’s an abundance of warm red berries, earthy, and spicy aromas. Fresh, very fresh. Precise. Pure. And very long. This might be the best Optimus I've ever tasted. Same subtle flavor blend, same French style and sensibility. Great balance and flavor...I'd drink it with Lamb or Veal. I would say it's ready to drink now but I would love to see what happens over the next few years. I usually try not to keep Paso wines for a long period of time, however, there are exceptions and this should be one of them.

Honey dominates the nose, along with tangerine and honeydew melon. Just a touch off dry, with lots of citrus and more rich honey, with a sharp blade of acidity running through to keep it refreshing. It's never going to pass for a fine Vouvray, but for the price, it's surprisingly enjoyable, and would be welcome at any Summer outdoor gathering.

Quite soft, despite the heady bouquet. Medium tannins are still a bit edgy, but there is some nice red fruit along with cinnamon, vanilla and a bit of anise.

This is really quite tasty; sweet strawberry, bright cherry with a slight hint of tangy raspberry, and a splendid creamy texture balanced nicely by the bubbles. You may never have thought of New Mexico for wine before, but I urge you to give this a try. Rivals it's competition, at less than half the price.

Holy smoke on the water, this one's dynamite. Complex nose shows lemon, toasted nuts, candle wax and a touch of lanolin. Like flavors, with a rich mouthfeel that gives way to zippy acidity on the finish that also shows a touch of jalapeno. From one of Australia's very best producers

Opens with a burst of sweet strawberry, then the dark fruit, tobacco and vanilla provide a wide, mouth-filling bite of supple flavors. Soft tannins and a hint of graphite define the finish. Really a delicious, well made wine, with perhaps the best feature; its wonderfully low price tag.

I bought a case of the 2006 Redmon Cabernet after having it at a wine tasting about 18 months ago. The 2007 was gone before I could buy any. I was very pleased with the 2008 at a tasting yesterday, for my money they are a great, affordable boutique producer that can match up with wines twice the price. This was tasted side by side with an Alpha Omega Proprietary Blend and an 09 Caymus Cab and I thought the Redmon was a much better wine and wine value.

A minimalist approach to Chardonnay with max results. The nose is bright fruit, with citrus and cantaloupe, and a waft of salty ocean spray. Jumps onto the palate with pineapple, bitter orange, bee's wax and a steely focused finish. Great Sushi wine.

Here's a rich, sultry red beauty from Italy that's sure to please even the most staunch California fan. The nose doesn't quite prepare you for what follows. Pencil lead, blueberry and mint are unmistakable, but not pungent. But the palate is all about big, ripe fruit. Black cherry and pomegranate are fresh and clean, and stay... with you for a good long time. Sweet black licorice help to soften the tannins, which prove the wine age worthy without getting in the way of enjoy it in its youth.

The bouquet reminds me of summer, with ripe banana and citrus fruit, along with fresh roses, peanuts and a rich, ice cream component. The palate is steely, but with a herbal blanket that melds apricot, lime, pear and apple towards a long finish. I'd recommend this to anyone who likes to try something different in a white, also Rhone fans will enjoy. Mostly Godello, with small additions of Dona Blanca and Treixadura.

The bouquet has a long way to evolve yet, but hidden amongst the sharp, hot lemon is pear and marzipan, which should take the lead as it matures. Pineapple dominates the palate, as well as the finish, but there's also white pepper, casaba, rosemary and riverstone. This is REALLY too young, tight and closed up to enjoy as it should be, but if you have a few years patience, you'll be well rewarded.
