“S” appellations

Seyssel

Located immediately south of Geneva, this little appellation at the foot of the Alps is known for producing light and floral wines primarily from the Chasselas varietal, though a minimum of 10% Roussette is mandatory, probably because that varietal is said to originate in this area. The still versions of Seyssel are at their best when they are young and fresh, and rarely deserve more than a light quaff at the lunch table while hitting the slopes. An interesting sparkling wine called Seyssel Mousseux is also produced in this AOC, mostly from the local varietal Molette.
