“S” appellations

Seyssel Mousseux

The AOC used for Sparkling wines that hail from the tiny appellation of Seyssel, found at the foot of the Alps directly to the south of Geneva. Seyssel Mousseux is produced primarily from the local varietal Molette. The wines can be a great and inexpensive alternative to Champagne, though the end product is slightly lighter in body and fruit, though with a heavier floral component. Most wines from Seyssel including the Mousseux versions are at the best when they are young and fresh, usually within a year or two of vintage. These are considered some of the best wines in the Savoie region.
