Appellation Details
The Sonoma Coast appellation is largely based in Sonoma County but also extends south into Marin county. The formation of this AVA was pushed largely by Sonoma-Cutrer, a large Chardonnay producer that wanted to pull grapes from numerous appellations, label it under their own appellation and still be able to use the term <I>Estate Bottled</I> on the label.
Sonoma Coast includes the following subappellations: Chalk Hill, Green Valley, Los Carneros, Russian River Valley, Sonoma Mountain and Sonoma Valley.
