“S” appellations

Sonoma Coast

The Sonoma Coast appellation is largely based in Sonoma County but also extends south into Marin county. The formation of this AVA was pushed largely by Sonoma-Cutrer, a large Chardonnay producer that wanted to pull grapes from numerous appellations, label it under their own appellation and still be able to use the term Estate Bottled on the label.

Sonoma Coast includes the following subappellations: Chalk Hill, Green Valley, Los Carneros, Russian River Valley, Sonoma Mountain and Sonoma Valley.
